Athletics Photos Reviews

Athletics is the biggest of the Olympic sports, and can lay claim to being the seed from which the Olympics oak tree grew.

Running events were a feature of the earliest of the ancient Olympics, and have been a constant in the Games ever since.

At their most basic, the four disciplines which make up athletics - track, field, road and combination events - involve running (or walking), throwing or jumping - or a combination of the three.

Many of the blue-ribbon events at any Olympics are on the athletics program, from the 100 metres sprint to the 1,500 metres and the decathlon.

Athletics represents sport at its most pure. Equipment plays only a minor role (except in the case of 400m runner and double amputee Oscar Pistorius) - the contest is won or lost according to the skill of the competitors alone.

Whoever is fastest will win the track events, whoever can throw or jump or hurl or leap the farthest will win the field events, and the best allround athlete will win the combination events - the decathlon and heptathlon.

Badminton History And Photos

The Atlanta Olympics started to raise the sport's profile in the US. The event was a sell-out and became one of the most popular sports. Ex-President Jimmy Carter, Chelsea Clinton, Princess Anne and Paul Newman were among the celebrities who came to watch. David Broder of the Washington Post also came. After seeing the men's doubles finals, he reported: "seeing one of the supreme athletic spectacles of my life".

1996 was a landmark in American badminton. It's not only the Atlanta Olympic Games that started to generate massive interest in the American market. In December 1995 the IBF introduced a brand new tournament in California, the Hong Ta Shan Cup; a men's invitational event with top players and big prize money. This year there are plans to add a women's event and to increase the prize money still further - a real Christmas present for players and American spectators. The Hongtashan Group has gone on to sponsor the US Open, increasing the prize money to $200,000 . This makes the event the most valuable World Grand Prix event in the series and gives it six-star status.

Baseball Players Photos

Over the generations, baseball people have developed an infinity of tics and habits to distract and sedate the conscious mind. Managers encourage a preternaturally calm way of being — especially after failure. In the game I happened to see here on Tuesday, Detroit Tigers pitcher Nate Robertson threw poorly, but strutted off the mound as if he’d just slain Achilles. Second baseman Kevin Hooper waved pathetically at a third struck fastball, but walked back to the dugout wearing an expression of utter nonchalance.

This sort of body language helps players remain steady amid humiliation, so they’ll do better next time.

Believe me, the people involved in the sport have no theory of the human mind, but under the pressure of competition, they’ve come up with a set of practices that embody a few key truths.

NBA Basket Ball Photos Reviews

The latest reason has been provided by the University of Kentucky. It hired basketball coach John Calipari away from Memphis, paying him $31.65 million over eight years. His total compensation involves a web of millions of dollars in agreements the university has struck with shoe, athletic-apparel, and soda companies as well as marketeers of broadcast rights.

The athletic department says (as UConn Final Four basketball coach Jim Calhoun recently asserted in his famous tirade defending his $1.6 million salary) this is no problem because it is self-sustaining, sucking nothing away from educational resources. University of Kentucky President Lee Todd behaved less as a CEO of higher learning than as a stupefied gnome counting his treasure.

Jordan loved to play baseball when he was a child, and also played some basketball and football. His love for basketball began when his older brother, Larry, continuously beat him in one-on-one pickup games. As with any challenge Jordan faces, this determined Michael to become a better player.

Jordan played in the 1992 summer Olympics with the original Dream Team, perhaps the greatest team ever assembled. It was the first time NBA players were allowed to compete in the Olympics. Michael Jordan averaged 12.7 points per game as the USA Dream Team went 6-0 to win the gold medal, Jordan’s second in his career.

There were some troublig events that followed his third NBA Championship. Jordan’s father, James Jordan, pulled over one night to take a nap on his way home, and was murdered by a couple of armed robbers in North Carolina. The NBA also began an investigation into allegations that Jordan had illegally bet on NBA games. He was eventually cleared. These events eventually caused Jordan to lose his motivation and the sense of having to prove something as a basketball player, and he felt it was time to step away from the court.

On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced “I’m back!” He ended his short-lived career with baseball and rejoined the Bulls near the end of the 1994-1995 regular season, eventually losing to the Orlando Magic in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. “He didn’t look like the old Michael Jordan, ” said Orlando’s Nick Anderson.

Jordan once again had something to prove to the world, that he was still the greatest basketball player to ever play the game, and that he would be even greater in the season to come. Michael Jordan led the Bulls to an astonishing 72-10 record, the best regular season in the history of the NBA. Jordan led the league in scoring with 30.4 points per game, was named the All-Star MVP, the league MVP and the NBA Finals MVP, as they went on to win their fourth NBA championship (1996). He was selected in 1996 as one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History.Jordan and the Bulls continued their dominance into the next two seasons, winning two more consecutive championships (1997 and 1998), becoming the first team in NBA history to repeat-the-threepeat (1991-1993, 1996-1998). Jordan earned All-Star MVP and league MVP honors in 1998, led the league in scoring in all three years of his comeback (1996, 1997, and 1998) and won six NBA Finals MVP awards for every Finals the Bulls have competed in.

The breakup of the Bulls dynasty by Jerry Krause led to Jordan’s second retirement. Jordan stated he would not play basketball for anyone else other than Phil Jackson, and mentioned he would like to spend more time with his wife, Juanita, and their three children, Jeffrey, Marcus, and Jasmine.

Michael Jordan later joined the Washington Wizards as President of Basketball Operations and part owner in January 2000. “I’m going to have my imprints and footprints all over this organization,” said Jordan. “I look forward to turning this thing around. Right now we’re an underachieving team.” Jordan disappointedly witnessed his team win 19 games in the 2000-2001 season, his first full season as President of Basketball Operations, after winning only 29 games the season before. He completely overhauled the roster, hired Doug Collins, a coach Jordan played for once before in his early years with the Bulls, and began the Wizards rebuilding phase. But no one had expected the turn of events that were leading into the 2001-2002 season

Caroline Wozniacki tennis player

Caroline Wozniacki
The US Open so far has been very surprising. Especially the women’s side of it. Yanina Wickmayer in the semi’s, Kim Clijsters making a strong come back, Caroline Wozniacki finally made her long awaited breakthrough and the big surprise of the tournament is ofcourse Melanie Oudin. Oudin taught a lot of players some Russian. Steam course too.

It’s remarkable and amazing how far Oudin got in the tournament. But every tournament has such a story. A player coming in from nowhere being the underdog all of a sudden starts taking out big names. It worked for Pete Sampras back in 1990, Marcos Baghdatis did it and so did Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Other remarkable things that happened during the tournament was the guy who kissed Rafael Nadal. We had streakers at Wimbledon and many more wacky things. But a guy kissing another guy on court. Yah that was baffling. Even though he made a lot of fans jealous, the kiss man is going to be charged for what he did. But what a stunt. I wonder how he got past security. That’s something the US Open will have to work on. But then again, it’s these kind of events that gives a tournament that little extra sensation.
